WHAT IS CORE?

Core is a Drawing & Painting program for students in 2nd thru 4th grade, or younger students that have completed our Lil' Picasso program.

WHAT WILL MY CHILD LEARN?

Your child will:

  • Learn how to properly use and shade with a variety of mediums
  • Learn how to draw a variety of subjects, such as people, animals, landscapes, still lifes and cartoons
  • Be introduced to Art History from Cave Art to Modern Art
  • Learn about Composition, Color Theory and Perspective

HOW LONG IS EACH PROJECT? HOW MANY PROJECTS ARE THERE?

  • There are 52 projects in the Core program.
  • Students will receive access to one recorded project every week.
  • The recordings are 1-2 hours each, however it will take students an average of 2 hours to complete each project.
  • How long it takes a student to complete a project varies, depending on their age, ability level and the difficulty level of the project. Projects are easier/shorter at the beginning of the program and get progressively harder. It is a cumulative curriculum.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Students can choose to work at their own rate, so they could complete as many as 4 projects per month, or they could work slower - it's up to them and how much time they want to dedicate.

However, once you stop paying for the monthly classes, you will lose access to the curriculum even if you did not finish it. But, if you re-up your subscription at any time in the future, you can take off where you left off.

Students can complete the projects on their own time, or they can join Teacher Time on Tuesdays 5-6:30pm PDT. Teacher Time is an opportunity for students to have access to live teachers for advice and feedback while they work on their recorded projects at home. We utilize a feature called Zoom Rooms, so when a student has a question, a Teacher takes them into their own room and offers them individualized instruction and then returns them to the group.

At the end of every project, there is a Quiz for Review and students submit a photo of their completed projects for further teacher feedback.

WHAT MATERIALS WILL MY CHILD NEED?

Students in all online classes may use whatever mediums they want or have, however, we suggest using the same mediums the teachers use to demonstrate with to get the most out of the experience.

  • A pad of 11x14" mixed media paper, 100lb or heavier
  • watercolor and acrylic paints
  • chalk and oil pastels
  • graphite, charcoal and colored pencils
  • markers
  • scissors, glue, colored paper
  • paint brushes
